Simple homemade scented candles with essential oils. An amazing way to make scented candles at home, in less than ten minutes.
Scented candles in stores are cheap. So why doing homemade scented candles ? There are many reasons. You can add any essential oil you like to have the desired flavor. The scented candles from the store do smell very nice, but when they burn at home, you don’t smell much. They are easy to make at home and also very cheap. The part I love the most, it’s that I can make them in any shape or colors.
Homemade Scented Candles
1. Supplies And Tools
- Glass containers for the candles
- Regular candles for the wax
- A pot to melt the candles
- Essential oils
- Decorations
- Barbecue sticks
2. Wax For Candles
The best option is real beeswax. But not everyone can get it easily. You can use old candles instead, or you can buy really cheap regular candles. If they are longer, simply cut them in two as I did in the video. Depending of the height of the glass container you will use, make sure the wicks are long enough for the container. We will use the wicks from the old candles instead of making new ones. The quantity of the candles needed to melt, depends of the size and number of the scented candles you will make.
Use a pot to melt the candles. After melting the candles, I like transferring everything in a plastic container that is really easy to pour with. You can clean the pot with boiled water after you finished everything. If you want candles in different colors, use food coloring or wax crayons. Simply melt them together with the candles.
3. Essential Oils
Pick your favorite flavors. The quantity of the essential oil depends of the number of candles you want to make. You can experiment a little with the quantity, depending of the desired strength of the perfume. Personally for two candles as the ones in the tutorial, I’m using about 5ml. When the wax is melted, mix it with the essential oils.
4. Glass Containers
For the glass container you can use any shape and size you wish. Pick what you have available, depending on the finished design you would like to have. The ones I used in the video tutorial have 40 ml each. Decorate the glass in any possible way you can think of. Just keep in mind that the glass will get really hot.
Do not use any plastic material that would eventually melt !
Pour the melted wax mixed with the essential oil in the glass container. Keep the wick straight using the help of a barbecue stick. Once you finished, let them cool down. When the wax has hardened, cut the wick to a proper size. Add the desired decorations, and your scented candles are ready. If you can use real beeswax, together with the essential oils, you will get some really great scented candles. Far better than the ones available in the stores. These candles fit perfectly together with my simple but beautiful heart decoration.
